Surah Yaseen

04 Dec

Yasinsample595

The Prophet of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Whoever recites Surah Yaseen in the night seeking Allah’s pleasure, Allah will forgive him.” [Ibn Hibban, Darimi, Tabarani, Baihaqi]

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) also told us that whoever recites Surah Yaseen in the morning will have all his/her needs taken care of for that day. [Mishkat]

What is so special about Surah Yaseen?

This surah warned the Quraish of the consequences of not believing in the prophethood of Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) and of resisting and opposing his message with tyranny, ridicule and mockery. The aspect of warning is dominant in this surah but arguments are also given for the correct understanding that people need to have. Arguments are given for three things:

(1) For Tauhid — from the signs in the universe and from common sense;
(2) For the Hereafter — from the signs in the universe, from common sense, and from man’s own existence;
(3) For the prophethood of Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) — from the fact that he was facing all kinds of hardships in preaching the message of Islam, gaining nothing personally, and from this that whatever he was inviting the people to was in their own interest.

Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Surah Yaseen is the heart of the Quran.” [Abu Daud, Nasai] It has been called the throbbing heart of the Quran because it presents the message of the Quran in a most forceful manner, so that hearts are shaken up, inertness shattered, and those that have any capacity for accepting the truth left in them, not remain unmoved.
