A pretty city

From Peñíscola, Spain, we drove 140 km down the Orange Blossom Coast past mountains and (not surprisingly) orange groves to Valencia…

which I didn’t realise was the 3rd largest city in Spain.

Funnily enough, there was a distinct lack of oranges in this pretty city, except of course at Central Market (Mercado Central) where it was as much fun looking at the building as all the endless varieties of fresh produce.

In fact, there were delightful buildings everywhere, both old and new.

I must say we appreciated the maps on bus stop shelters as we wandered around…

enjoying surprises around every corner…

and came upon some of the impressive medieval gates of the old walled city.

We found an outdoor market offering all the usual colourful souvenirs (though a little pricier than in Peñíscola)…

and there were plenty of paella pans for sale in this birthplace of that delicious Spanish fare.

Having worked up an appetite, we backtracked to a cafe we had…
